Age Restriction & Children's Privacy
Last updated: July 29, 2026
1. SocialCue is for adults 18 and over
You must be at least 18 years old to use SocialCue. Registration asks for your date of birth. We work out your age from it on our servers, before your SocialCue profile is created, and if it shows you are under 18 no profile is created and you cannot use the Service — the check runs on our side, so it cannot be skipped from your browser or phone. If you register with Google, Google signs you in first and we ask for your date of birth immediately afterwards, before any profile exists; if the check shows you are under 18 we delete the sign-in record we created and no profile is ever made. By using the Service you also represent that you are 18 or older. This requirement is stated in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
We do not keep your full date of birth. The complete date is used once, to work out whether you are old enough, and the day is then discarded. We keep the month and year you were born, together with the outcome of the check — that it was made, when, how, and the minimum age we applied.
We keep the month and year for one reason: so the age range shown on your profile moves up on its own as you get older, rather than staying at whatever it was when you joined. Because we do not keep the day, it changes at the start of your birthday month. That range is a profile detail shown to other members — it is not how we decide whether you may hold an account, and it has no effect on your eligibility.
Members who joined before we began asking for a date of birth chose their own age range and can still change it. We have not guessed a birth date for anyone.
2. Not intended for children
SocialCue is intended solely for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Persons under 18 are prohibited from creating an account or using the Service in any capacity.
3. No underage or misrepresented accounts
You may not create an account if you are under 18, and you may not create one on behalf of anyone under 18. Misrepresenting your age is a violation of our Terms and grounds for immediate termination.
4. How we treat age
We ask for your date of birth at registration and check it on our servers. If it shows you are under 18, no SocialCue profile is created. The check uses the complete date, to the exact day, and applies to every way of registering, including Google. The full date is not kept: the day is discarded, and we retain the birth month and year plus the record that the check was made, when, how, and the minimum age applied.
Your profile shows an age range (18–22, 23–27, 28–32, 33–37, 38–44, 45–54, 55+). Where we hold your birth month and year, that range is worked out from them and updates itself as you get older, so it is not something you set or edit. Members who joined earlier chose their own range and can still change it. Either way it is a profile detail other members can see, it is not our age check, and it does not decide whether you may hold an account.
We do not verify age with identity documents or any age-verification technology. Alongside the date-of-birth check we rely on your representation that you are 18 or older, together with the removal process below.
5. Accounts we learn belong to someone under 18
If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will disable and delete it, and delete the associated personal information, without notice. This is a form of age-related account termination and is at our discretion.
6. Parents and guardians
If you believe a person under 18 has created an account or provided us personal information, contact us immediately at legal@socialcue.co with the account’s display name or email address and a description of your relationship to the minor. We will investigate promptly, remove the account, and delete the associated personal information. We may ask for limited additional information to locate the account and confirm the request, and we will use it only for that purpose.
7. Children's privacy principles
Because SocialCue is intended only for adults, we do not knowingly collect, use, or share personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we delete it. We do not create profiles of, or direct any feature toward, children.
8. Changes
We will post changes to this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated in the app.
