California Privacy Rights
Last updated: August 21, 2026
1. California privacy rights
This notice is for people who live in California. California residents may have certain rights under applicable California privacy laws regarding the personal information businesses collect about them.
This page explains, in plain terms, what personal information SocialCue collects, where it comes from, how it is used, who it is shared with, and how a California resident can make a privacy request. It is a supplement to our Privacy Policy — it does not replace it, and the two should be read together.
2. Scope
This notice covers personal information SocialCue collects through the SocialCue mobile app and the SocialCue website.
It does not cover information you give directly to anyone else — for example a venue you visit, another member you choose to connect with, or a social media platform whose handle you choose to share. Once you share a social handle with a member you have connected with, what that person does with it is outside SocialCue’s control.
3. Categories of personal information we collect
Depending on how you use SocialCue, we may collect the following categories of personal information:
- Identifiers and account information. Your account identifier, display name, and the email address you sign in with.
- Profile information. Your photos, biography, interests, age bracket, relationship status, home city and state, and an optional temporary travel city and state you type in to browse another city. These are a city-and-state preference you provide — not coordinates, and not the precise geolocation described below.
- Contact information. A phone number, and any social media handles you choose to add for sharing after you connect with someone.
- Authentication information. Information used to sign you in, including sign-in through Google if you choose it, and phone verification information where you complete it.
- Device and notification information. Device identifiers used to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Location information, including precise geolocation. Your device’s location while you are using the app. See section 8 below.
- Presence and venue activity. Which mapped venue you are at, and when, while presence is active.
- Event participation. Events you RSVP to and attend.
- SocialCue Connect information. Whether you have joined SocialCue Connect and the role you have chosen.
- Invitations and connections. Invitations you send or receive, and the connections that result.
- Community content. Posts, comments, and poll responses in SocialCue channels.
- Trust and safety information. Reports you submit or that are submitted about you, blocks, and related moderation records.
- Referral information. Referral codes and whether an invited person activated.
- Wallet, credits, and membership information. Your credit balance, transaction history, and membership status.
- Transaction and subscription information. Purchases and subscriptions made through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those stores process payments; SocialCue does not receive or store your full payment card details.
- Usage and acquisition information. Internal records of how the app is used and how you first arrived, used to operate and improve the service.
- Cookies and similar technologies. A small number of cookies used to keep you signed in and to support referrals and security. SocialCue does not use advertising cookies, advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, ad networks, or third-party analytics products.
4. Sources of personal information
We collect personal information from these sources:
- Directly from you — when you create an account, build your profile, add photos, verify a phone number, RSVP to an event, post in a channel, or send an invitation.
- Automatically from your device — location while you use the app, device identifiers for push notifications, and cookies.
- From other members — for example when someone invites you, connects with you, or submits a report about your conduct.
- From service providers — for example confirmation from the Apple App Store or Google Play that a purchase or subscription is valid, or confirmation from a sign-in provider that you signed in successfully.
5. How SocialCue uses personal information
We use personal information to:
- create and maintain your account and profile;
- show you nearby mapped venues, and show your presence at a venue to other members according to your settings;
- operate invitations and connections, and share social handles only when you separately opt in;
- show and operate events, RSVPs, and channels;
- send notifications you have enabled;
- operate the wallet, credits, membership, and subscription features;
- operate referrals;
- keep SocialCue safe — reviewing reports, moderating photos and content, enforcing our guidelines, and preventing fraud and abuse;
- understand how the service is used so we can improve it; and
- meet legal and regulatory obligations.
We do not use personal information for behavioral advertising or advertising profiling.
6. Disclosure to service providers and other parties
SocialCue discloses personal information to service providers who perform functions on our behalf and are permitted to use the information only to provide those services. These fall into the following categories:
- hosting, database, storage, and authentication providers;
- email and text-message delivery providers;
- push notification delivery providers;
- mapping and location providers;
- app store and payment providers, for purchases and subscriptions; and
- security and content delivery providers that help keep the service available and protected.
Information may also be disclosed to other members as part of how the product works — for example, your visible profile at a venue, a channel post you publish, or a social handle you opt to share after connecting. What is visible to whom is described in the Privacy Policy.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to respond to lawful requests, to protect the rights and safety of members or the public, or in connection with a business transfer.
7. Sensitive personal information
Some information SocialCue processes may be treated as sensitive personal information under California law. The clearest example is precise geolocation, described in the next section.
Where SocialCue processes information of this kind, it is to operate the features you are using and to keep the service safe — not for advertising, not to build advertising profiles, and not for purposes unrelated to providing SocialCue to you.
California residents may have rights concerning sensitive personal information where applicable law provides them. If you have a question or request about this, contact us using the details in section 22.
8. Precise geolocation
SocialCue collects precise location information from your device. This is central to how the product works: SocialCue shows which nearby mapped venues have people present, and determines whether you are inside a venue we have mapped.
Location information is used to:
- show you nearby venues and activity;
- determine whether you are inside a mapped venue’s boundary;
- make you visible to other members at that same venue, according to your settings; and
- support related location-based features such as local channels.
Location is collected while you are using the app. One exception applies: if arrival reminders are enabled for your account and you grant Android background-location permission, the app may also read your location while it is not open, solely to determine whether you have arrived at a participating venue and to send you a reminder. An arrival reminder does not make you present at a venue or visible to other members. You can revoke that permission at any time in your Android settings, and nothing else in the app is affected.
You control location access through your device’s operating system settings and can withdraw it at any time. Location-dependent features will not work without it. You can also use Ghost Mode in the app to stop being visible to other members while continuing to use SocialCue.
Your home city and state, and your optional temporary travel city and state, are not precise geolocation. You type them in your profile, and they are used only to choose which city’s venues and events we show you. They are not read from your device and are not used to determine whether you are present at a venue.
9. Sale and sharing of personal information
SocialCue does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We do not use advertising networks, advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics products, and we do not disclose personal information to data brokers. Because there is no such sale or sharing, SocialCue does not offer a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option — there is nothing of that kind to opt out of. If this ever changes, we will update this notice and provide the mechanism the law requires before the change takes effect.
10. Right to know and access
California residents may have the right to request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about them, the categories of sources, the purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties to whom it is disclosed.
Much of your information is visible to you directly in the app, in your profile and account settings. For anything beyond that, you can make a request using section 15.
11. Right to delete
California residents may have the right to request deletion of personal information we have collected from them.
You can delete your account yourself from within the app. Deleting your account removes or anonymizes your profile and personal details and stops you appearing to other members.
Some records are retained after deletion where the law permits or requires it — for example records needed for security and fraud prevention, to resolve disputes, to enforce our agreements, to keep trust-and-safety and moderation records, and to keep records of purchases and subscriptions. Some information also remains because it is part of another member’s record, such as a connection you both took part in.
12. Right to correct
California residents may have the right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information about them.
You can edit your profile information — including your display name, biography, interests, photos, and location details — directly in the app at any time. If something you cannot edit yourself is inaccurate, contact us using section 15.
13. Rights concerning sale or sharing
California residents may have the right to opt out of the sale of their personal information and of sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising.
As explained in section 9, SocialCue does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. We have not offered a control for this because offering one would suggest a practice that does not exist.
14. Rights concerning sensitive personal information
California residents may have the right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information where a business uses it for purposes beyond those permitted by law.
SocialCue uses information of this kind — principally precise geolocation — to provide the features you are using and to keep the service safe. We do not use it for advertising or profiling. If you have a question or a request about how this information is used, contact us using section 15 and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.
15. Exercising California privacy rights
To make a California privacy request, contact us using the email address in section 22.
Please:
- say clearly that your request concerns California privacy rights;
- tell us which right you are exercising;
- include enough information for us to understand the request and to identify the account it relates to; and
- tell us how you would like us to respond, if you have a preference.
SocialCue does not operate a separate automated privacy-request portal. Requests are handled through the contact address below. We will respond to verified requests within the time required by applicable law.
16. Verification of requests
We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests. The information requested for verification will depend on the nature of the request and the information involved, and a request involving more sensitive information may require more to verify.
We use information provided for verification only to verify the request. If we cannot verify a request, we may be unable to complete it, and we will tell you why.
17. Authorized agents
California residents may use an authorized agent to make a request on their behalf where applicable law permits it.
Where an agent makes a request, we may ask for information reasonably necessary to confirm that the agent is authorized to act for you, and we may also ask you to verify your own identity directly with us.
18. Non-discrimination
SocialCue will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights available to you. We will not deny you the service, give you a different level or quality of service, or charge you a different price because you made a privacy request.
Some features simply cannot work without certain information — for example, venue presence cannot work without location. That is a functional limit of the feature, not a penalty for exercising a right.
19. Minors
SocialCue is for adults 18 and over. The service is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. SocialCue does not sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.
Our Age Restriction & Children’s Privacy policy explains this in full, including how to contact us if you believe someone under 18 has created an account.
20. Data retention
How long we keep personal information depends on what the information is and why we hold it. Relevant factors include:
- the type of information and how sensitive it is;
- the purposes we are using it for, and whether those continue;
- whether we need it for security, fraud prevention, or trust and safety;
- whether we need it to resolve a dispute or enforce our agreements; and
- legal, tax, accounting, and other regulatory requirements that apply to it.
Different categories are therefore kept for different periods, and some records are kept after an account is deleted for the reasons described in section 11. Retention is also described in our Privacy Policy.
21. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as SocialCue changes or as our practices change. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we make a change that materially affects how we handle personal information, we will provide any additional notice the law requires.
